## Defining the Mission: What is DeFi on Bitcoin?

Community Call #6 was a crucial, first-principles session where the founding contributors laid out the core mission and the fundamental ‘why’ behind the Sovryn project. The discussion was centered on a simple but powerful idea: bringing the financial revolution of **Decentralized Finance (DeFi) to the world’s most secure and decentralized monetary network, Bitcoin**.

### Why Bitcoin?

The team explained why building on Bitcoin was a non-negotiable principle. While most of the early DeFi boom was happening on other platforms, they argued that a truly sustainable and sovereign financial system must be built on the best possible foundation.

* **The Most Secure Money:** Bitcoin’s proof-of-work provides unparalleled security, making it the ideal base layer for a system intended to secure billions of dollars in value.
* **The Best Collateral:** Bitcoin is the most pristine, credibly neutral, and desirable collateral asset in the digital world. Any robust lending and borrowing system must be centered around it.
* **Unlocking Bitcoin’s Potential:** The vast majority of Bitcoin sits idle in wallets. The mission of Sovryn is to unlock this dormant capital, allowing holders to put their BTC to work—earning interest, borrowing against it, and trading—without selling it or trusting a centralized third party.

### What is Sovryn Building?

The vision presented was not just to build a single application, but a **complete financial operating system**. This includes all the key primitives of finance, rebuilt in a decentralized way on Bitcoin:

* Exchanging assets (a decentralized exchange).
* Lending and borrowing (money markets).
* Leverage and derivatives (margin trading and perpetuals).
* Stable assets (a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin).

By building this full stack, Sovryn aims to provide a viable, censorship-resistant, and permissionless alternative to the traditional financial system, accessible to anyone in the world with an internet connection and some Bitcoin.
